A: Y ahora es el turno de Carles Pinós quien nos va a hablar del nuevo proyecto del compositor belga Frank Nuyts, o como se llame, llamado Beat Love Oracle – oracle, oracle, oracle – naranja, vamos, qué narices jeje.
B (Carles): A ver, pues este proyecto, el Beat Love Oracle, que es un proyecto que nació en 2017, un poco de las cenizas del proyecto que tenía de la Hardscore, y, bueno, es una banda pues encuadrada o dentro de lo que sería el ‘ ‘(xxx?) fusion’, no? Dentro de la escena belga que tiene muchos eh, algun día hablaremos de la escena belga, pues estos Beat Love Oracle, pues de, bueno, se juntaron en el 2017 y ahora en este 2020, nos regalan este disco titulado Who’s Counting. Es un disco que está, que será públicado en LP con su descarga igital, pues en LP.
Eh, lo digo porque Fernando Pastor me había comentado así, a micro cerrado, que le parecía casi como un EP y demás. Bueno, es que las limitaciones que hay ahora con el tema de la edición en vinilo, con el tema de minutaje, pues hace que los discos, parentemente, bueno, aparentemente no, que son más cortos que los que se puedan publicar en cd, de hecho, esta banda tenía grabado más material, y yo por lo que he podido saber, se publicará más adelante, en un futuro disco. Se titulará algo así como Beat Love Oracle vs. Hardscore. Aquí la mayoría del material compositivo está escrito por Frank Nuyts, que es el leader de la banda, que toca la marimba y sintetizadores. Y bueno, es una mezcla de estilos. De cierta manera puede retrotraer al estilo, a lo que hacía Zappa, de mezclar, pues eh, jazzrock (?) con ciertos toques de clásico contemporánea, es un disco bastante ecléctico y bastante difícil de lasificar y creo que será un disco bastante incomprendido. Ya lo adelanto de entrada. Eh bueno, el resto de la banda, pues a parte de Frank Nuyts, está Frank De Bruyne que toca el saxo y sintetizadores y también compone. También está Stijn Deldaele, que toca el bajo, y Ronald Dhae eh Dhaene, que toca la batería. Para mí es un disco redondo, perfecto. O sea, pues dura lo que dura, dura… no llega a los 40 minutos, un poco al estilo de los antiguos vinilos de los años 70, qué duraban estos? A ver, yo no lo consideraría EP por eso, por que si no, cualquier disco de (Tangerine Dream?) de la etapa clásica también serían EPs, y bueno, para mí es de los lanzamientos más orprendentes de este año. Porque yo no conocía para nada esta banda, o sea, para mí, ha sido todo un descubrimiento.
Comentar que es un disco que ya está dentro de, a fecha de hoy, está dentro de mi carpeta de top 10, ya veremos que pasará a final de año, y bueno, yo para este programa, y para ilustrar eh, un poco de qué va esta música, yo había pensado en pinchar el tema Shift! We
are lost! No sé que pensáis vosotros?
A: Por mí OK!
C: A mí me parece bien, yo el disco sí que lo he escuchado, después de un cierto esfuerzo de hacerme con él, porque, hemos tenido allí que, para compartirlo ha sufrido distintas vicisitudes, y he de decir que me ha gustado bastante más a mí esta propuesta de Carles Pinós que la mia a él, que era la de Long Distance Calling. Para mí es un disco eh bueno, sin ser, como decimos aquí con esa mitica frase ya de Carlos Romeo que “no es mi taza de té” pues yo unicamente voy a dar mi perspectiva de (metalinga) que le ha tocado escuchar este disco. A mí me ha parecido un buen disco, me ha gustado, a ver, logicamente al no ser mi pan, o como se suele decir, pues no tengo en, no lo voy a contemplar en mis topables pero a mí es un disco que sí que me ha parecido bien, de hecho sí que lo voy a dejar en mi reproductor un tiempo al contrario de Carles con el de Long Distance Calling, porque me parece una propuesta interesante.
Ahora bien, como muchas veces también dice mi amigo Carles al poner algún disco de metal pro, dice “Pero si es que esto no es pro!”, yo aquí, a ver, esto lo que tiene es poco rock, es decir tiene mucho jazz, en mi limitado conocimiento de lo que son estos estilos de música pero debo decir que como disco para mí muy jazzero sí que ma ha parecido un disco bueno, la verdad, y muy bien grabado y que se hace, probablemente por esa duración también que decía Carles de que no llega a los 40 minutos, a mí probablemente, pues, se me hubiera hecho más pesado, más tiempo, pero con esos 35, 37 minutos que tiene, pues a mí es un disco, quiero decir, que me parece disfrutón.

A: Sí, la verdad que sí, pocas veces hay consenso entre vosotros dos. Bueno, pues, vamos a eschuchar un temita, que se nos está alargando el programa y hay que ir cerrando y todavía nos queda uno, uno, el último, eh Carles cuando quieras.
B: Pues es de este trabajo del 2020, de la banda belga Beat Love Oracle, llamado Who’s Counting, vamos a escuchar el tema titulado Shift! We’re lost!

I mention this because Fernando Pastor had mentioned to me, in confidence, that it seems almost like an EP and so on. Well, it’s because of the limitations that exist now with vinyl edition, in terms of the length, it makes the albums seem shorter than those that can be released on CD. In fact, this band has recorded more material, and as far as I know, it will be released later on, on a future album. It will be titled something like “Beat Love Oracle vs. Hardscore.” Most of the compositional material here is written by Frank Nuyts, who is the leader of the band, playing the marimba and synthesizers. Well, it’s a blend of styles. In a way, it can harken back to what Zappa used to do, mixing jazz-rock with certain touches of contemporary classical. It’s quite an eclectic and hard-to-classify album, and I think it will be a somewhat misunderstood album. I’m saying this right from the start. Well, the rest of the band, besides Frank Nuyts, includes Frank De Bruyne on saxophone and synthesizers, who also composes. There’s also Stijn Deldaele on bass and Ronald Dhaene, who plays the drums. To me, it’s a flawless, perfect album. I mean, it is what it is, it doesn’t last… it doesn’t even reach 40 minutes, a bit like the old vinyl records from the 70s, how long did those last? Well, I wouldn’t consider it an EP because of that, otherwise, any album by Tangerine Dream from the classical era would also be considered EPs, and for me, it’s one of the most surprising releases of this year. Because I had no idea about this band, so for me, it’s been quite a discovery.
I must mention that, as of today, this album is already in my top 10 list, we’ll see what happens at the end of the year. And well, for this program, to give you a taste of what this music is about, I thought about playing the track “Shift! We are lost!” What do you guys think?

C: I’m fine with that; I’ve actually listened to the album after some effort to get it because it had its share of adventures in sharing. I must say I liked Carles Pinós’ proposal more than mine, which was Long Distance Calling. For me, it’s a good album, without being, as we say here with that classic phrase from Carlos Romeo, “it’s not my cup of tea.” I’ll just give my perspective as someone who had to listen to this album. I found it to be a good album, I liked it. Obviously, since it’s not my usual genre, or as they say, I won’t consider it for my top picks, but it’s an album that I did like, in fact, I’ll keep it in my player for a while, unlike Carles with Long Distance Calling because I find it an interesting proposition.
That said, as my friend Carles often says when playing a progressive metal album, “But this isn’t prog!” Here, well, it’s lacking in rock; it has a lot of jazz, in my limited knowledge of these music styles. But I have to say that as a jazz-oriented album, it’s good, very well recorded, and probably due to that duration that Carles mentioned, it doesn’t quite reach 40 minutes, so for me, it might have felt heavier with more time, but with those 35, 37 minutes it has, I find it an enjoyable album.
